Elton

Elton is such a sweet old man, but it’s likely he has gone through some negative experiences - particularly with riding. He arrived with very sad eyes - very weak and emaciated, and we quickly realized he didn’t have the energy or fitness for regular training. We left him to be a horse, and fed him up for about 6 months before we started taking him back into the ring for training during the summer of 2023. He is much rounder and quite fit now - happy to move forward. From the time he arrived he has appeared fully broke on the ground - he halters and leads easily, stands for brushing, gives his feet, and doesn’t blink at being tacked. When put beside a mounting block though, his demeanour changed. He backed away with considerable determination, suggesting he has some trauma around being ridden. So we have gone back a step with his ground training. He is doing great in the pen now. He is a lunging pro, happy to trot around licking his lips. He also is easy to develop a connection with - he will run after his handler to stay with them. He will stand at the block now, and has been sat on - so he has come a long way, but he still holds some anxiety around it. We suspect he is well broke once he decides he wants to do that again.

Elton is full of love and looking for the same. If you are looking for a kind, older horse, and are willing to put some time into trust development and rehabilitation, Elton is a wonderful option. Everyone falls in love with him.
